#FAO75: To feed the world and much more

16/10/2020

The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) celebrated on October 16 its 75th anniversary as a specialized Agency of the United Nations with a global mandate in the field of food, agriculture, forestry, fisheries and rural development.

The FAO mission is clearly spelled out in its Charter: “A world free from hunger and malnutrition, where food and agriculture contribute to improving the living standards of all, especially the poorest, in an economically, socially and environmentally sustainable manner.”

What has FAO achieved in these three-quarters of a century, why has humanity not been able to eliminate world hunger in such a long time, and what is the “global village council” doing today in collaboration with its member countries to achieve its goals?

The FAO’s long march through 75 years is reflected in a comprehensive manner in an article written by the Director of FAO Liaison Office with the Russian Federation Mr Oleg Kobiakov and published by the International Life journal.
