Cookbook teaches you smart nutrition

A cookbook produced under the Russia-funded FAO project “Developing capacity for strengthening food security and nutrition” on improving nutrition in Armenia, Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan, has been awarded the prestigious Gourmand World Cookbook Awards with a 3rd place in the category Country/Region C24 Silk Road.

The Gourmand World Cookbook Awards honors every year the best food and wine books, printed or digital, as well as food TV series, and it is often called “Food Oscars”.

The book “Traditional Recipes: Enhancing Traditional Culinary Knowledge of Kyrgyzstan Through Food Diversity for Improved Nutrition” improves traditional dishes of the Suzak District, Kyrgyzstan, making them healthier and more nutritious. It helps to perfect cooking skill of the less food-secure people in rural areas. The 70-page edition is illustrated with color photos, and every dish is presented by the home cooks who mastered it for the family table (click to download the Russian edition).

You can source the book for inspiration  how to make balance your own family's diet, and cook your favorite dishes in different, more delicious and varied ways. You would also learn how to enrich food with healthy available, but not always widely consumed in Kyrgyzstan, such as chickpeas, lentils, beans, broccoli, cauliflower, pumpkin and spinach. Each dish is presented by a concrete person.

The authors of the cookbook did not miss a single opportunity to improve your diet was - all the recipes include products such as carrot and beet greens, rich in iron and vitamin C. They also took into account the recommendations experts’ advice to limit the use of salt, sugar, trans fats and increase the consumption of fruits and vegetables.

The book is available in Russian and Kyrgyz languages. Yummy, really!
