On 21 June, Oleg Kobiakov, Director of the  FAO Liaison Office with the Russian Federation, delivered welcoming remarks at the opening of the 28th international specialized trade fair “MVC: Cereals – Mixed Feed – Veterinary – 2023”.

“Over the years, the exhibition has become one of the most anticipated forums for industrial agriculture experts and enjoys well-deserved recognition among industry professionals. For many of them, participation in the exhibition has become an indispensable element of business and an important event facilitating the development of the agrarian sector of the economy,” highlighted the Head of the FAO Moscow Office. “Traditionally, advanced technology and developments are showcased here, market participants exchange experience, and agreements are concluded on the implementation of promising investment projects.

Being a UN specialized agency, FAO is the only intergovernmental organization with a global mandate in the field of agriculture. We provide a platform for interaction in mandated areas between our member states across all regions and contribute to the development of the regulatory framework and scientific research.

I am glad to see that over the recent years, thanks to the introduction of new technologies, planned modernization of agricultural enterprises and increasing efficiency of their work, Russian industrial agriculture has been sustainably developing and acting as a driver of national economic growth.

Today Russia has turned into the world breadbasket, becoming a large food exporter and a leading player in the global grain and fertilizer market. The country can make a significant contribution to improving global food security and bring a world free of hunger closer.

The foundation for creating a long-term public food agenda is laid with multilateral cooperation and dialogue, working together with the academia, the private sector, as well as industry and trade unions.

In this regard, FAO has a wide range of recommendations and world best business practices to provide guidelines and ensure that Russian partners have the necessary tools to improve sustainable food systems.

I am confident that the busy agenda of the exhibition will help you navigate the current market trends and continue the interaction between partners and experts from different countries.

In conclusion, allow me to once again wish all the participants and guests successful and fruitful work, effective cooperation and strengthening of business connections!”
