At a meeting with heads of Moscow offices of UN agencies, held on 26 September, Sergei Egorenko, Deputy Head of Russia’s Federal State Statistics Service (Rosstat) spoke in detail about the monitoring mechanisms put in place by Russia for observing the progress of the implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. FAO’s Liaison Office with Russia prepared and organized the gathering.

Russian government agencies provide information on the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) to Rosstat, which is responsible for the coordination of the flow ofstatistical data on SDGs to international organizations.

In line with a Russian Government decree issued on 23 September 2017, a special subsection  on SDGs has been incorporated in the Federal Statistical Work Plan. The Plan lists 90 SDG indicators with data on 54 of them collected and processed by Rosstat, and data for the remaining 36 by ministries and federal agencies.

To account for the specifics of the country, a draft National List of SDG Indicators has been elaborated. The detailed list features 380 indicators proposed by Rosstat and 11 indicators suggested by experts. The indicators cover seven priority areas: poverty and inequality; healthcare; education; agriculture and the environment; industry, energy and labor; urban spaces (cities and settlements); institutional development.

In the exchange with the heads of agencies present at the meeting the Deputy Head of Rosstat highlighted the potential for cooperation with the Moscow offices of the UN agencies.
