After planning the work with Mr. A. Collart, Mr. Rabe, Mr. Rasolfo and Mr. Rabelahatra, basic information and materials were gathered:

  1. Topographic maps
  2. Rainfall charts
  3. Soil maps and other pertinent materials

Tuesday, 20 March, Mr. Collart and this writer left for Diego Suarez. We conferred with the Forestry people (under which the project is operating) and a survey team was formed. Members were:

  1. Mr. A. Collart
  2. Mr. T.J. Jamandre
  3. Mr. C. Rakotonarivo
  4. Mr. J. de Dieu

While the Forestry group was getting organized, Mr. Collart, Mr. Caisso and this writer left for preliminary surveys of the probable sites. Three sites had been pinpointed beforehand. All were salt works which had been abandoned about 20 to 30 years ago.

The survey in the Majunga area was similarly planned and executed at later dates.
