ABSTRACT

This is a report to the Government of Madagascar through the FAO/UNDP project on Development of Fisheries and Aquaculture (MAG/76/002). The consultant determined the suitability of various mangrove swamp sites identified as available for development for the proposed brackishwater aquaculture development and research centres for the country. After selecting the most suitable site for this project, among a number of alternative sites surveyed in Diego Suarez in the north and Majunga in the northwest coast, the plan for development and future production management programme are explained. Layout and construction specifications are described.
