Sustainale Food and Agriculture

Sustainable Food and Agriculture contributes to the four pillars of food security: availability, access, use, and stability. Italy, in collaboration with FAO, promotes sustainable food to assist nations throughout the globe in erradicating hunger and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

In depth

Situated in Rome’s famous Appia Antica Park, the G20 Green Garden invites people to reflect on the future of our planet. This open-air museum celebrates biodiversity, nature and Rome’s ancient heritage, while calling for global solidarity to create a sustainable future for all.

It represents the countries’ joint commitment to “People, Planet, Prosperity” – three core values inherently linked to the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals.

Italy is home to several Globally Important Agricultural Heritage Systems (GIAHS), precious agroecosystems inhabited by communities that live in an intricate relationship with their territory.

These evolving sites are resilient systems characterized by remarkable agrobiodiversity, traditional knowledge, invaluable cultures and landscapes, sustainably managed by farmers, herders, fisherfolk, and forest people in ways that contribute to their livelihoods and food security.
