Nestled in Rome’s Villa Doria Pamphilj park, an exciting and innovative initiative is coming to life: the Global Library of Trees and Flowers – FAO Park. This collaborative effort between FAO, Roma Capitale, and the support of Sovraintendenza, Coldiretti/Assofloro, Festival del Verde e del Paesaggio, and OSA is dedicated to cultivating sustainable practices and fostering global unity.
Sprawling over 2.5 hectares, the park is flourishing with over a hundred newly planted trees and plants, representing diverse regions around the world. This project highlights the importance of collaboration in addressing global challenges, highlighting that together we can make a difference.

Forests and Foods: International Day of Forests 2025 at FAO Park
Join us on the International Day of Forests, 21 March 2025 (11 a.m. - 1 p.m. CET), at Villa Doria Pamphilj in Rome for a special event dedicated to forests and foods. Explore the Global Library of Trees and Flowers - FAO Park (entrance via Leone XIII, largo Martin Luther King) and discover the vital connection between forests and food production. The theme of the 2025 International Day of Forests will focus on the connection between "Forests and Foods", an opportunity to celebrate the essential role of forests in supporting sustainable food systems and nourishing our planet.
Through immersive guided tours, students, families, and visitors will discover the link between forests, biodiversity, and food security. With the participation of FAO Director-General QU Dongyu, FAO experts, and institutional guests, the tour will explore the seven geographical areas of FAO Park, showcasing the nutritional value of trees and forest products.
Adding a unique dimension to the experience, master ice cream maker Eugenio Morrone and environmental expert Pietro Mattei will guide participants on a journey of taste and knowledge, sharing insights into the diverse flavors and benefits forests provide.
Location
Rome's Villa Doria Pamphilj Park is a sprawling urban oasis covering 184 hectares. It is the largest park in the city and is home to one of the best-preserved Roman villas in the city, the Villa Doria Pamphilj. On these grounds, history, art, and sustainability are intertwined. Throughout the centuries, it has retained its seventeenth-century allure and the distinctive elements of the 1700s and 1800s, offering a timeless journey through the ages.

In Latin America and the Caribbean forests are a treasure trove, not just for their beauty but also for their medicinal wonders. We must recognize the key role trees and forests play in preserving the balance of nature and in improving our well-being.
The Pacific region is home to natural forests that spanover 186 million hectares, and planted forests that cover slightly more than four million hectares. The region is also known for its incredible diversity, from the lush forests in New Zealand to the serene palm trees of Fiji.
