Monitoring disease rumours and events in the region to better prepare and respond to the risk of new outbreaks

Diseases do not have borders, and a regional overview of the dynamic disease situation is essential for forecasting and early warning functions to allow countries to be prepared for disease spread and the risk of new outbreaks. FAO ECTAD’s early warning platform analyses the real-time disease situation in the region and can notify countries of emerging threats to prepare and respond to outbreaks in a more efficient manner.

Through the platform, FAO works to:

  • Facilitate coordination and information sharing in a secure manner between countries and global networks to quickly prepare and respond to the threats and mitigate the impact of the disease in the region.

To strengthen the early warning system in the region, FAO continues to build capacity for regional tailored event-based surveillance and identify and apply early warning signal indicators through multidisciplinary collaboration. FAO is committed to support countries to prevent, detect and respond to animal disease threats to reduce the impact on lives and livelihoods.
