General Requirements for Imports
Food Safety Law of the People's Republic of China (2015): Establishes a food safety risk monitoring system to monitor food-borne disease, food contamination and risk factors in food in order to ensure food safety and protect public health. Furthermore, the law provides guidance about food safety standards, food inspections and all requirements for importing food.
Decree of General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine of the People’s Republic of China N. 135: Provides measures of inspection, quarantine and supervision for importing and exporting bivalve molluscs.
Frontier Health and Quarantine Law of the People’s Republic of China: Explains how the quarantine inspections take place at borders. In doing so, the law provides guidance to prevent infectious diseases from spreading into or out of the country, carry out frontier health as well as quarantine inspections and protect public health.

National Food Safety Standard-Maximum Levels of Contaminants in Food: Prescribes the maximum levels of contaminants and residues of veterinary drugs to be found in bivalve molluscs.

Microbiological and Organic Criteria
National Standards of People’s Republic of China - National Food Safety Standard: “Limits of Pathogenic Bacteria in Food”: Specifies requirements for the maximum limits of pathogenic bacteria to be found in food and corresponding testing methods.

Global Agricultural Information Network Report (FDA): Indicates that China requires the following documents for bivalve molluscs imports:
- NOAA’s health certificate
- Certificate of origin
- Shipping form by carrier
- Commercial invoice
- Quarantine inspection permit
- China custom's clearance form
