Global trade in crabs went up marginally during the first half of 2024. Snow crab was hindered by tighter supplies, while the outlook for king crab is bright. The Bristol Bay red king crab fishery is likely to remain open with higher quotas.
GLOBEFISH | Quarterly Crab analysis - September 2024

Supplies of king crab will be scarce this year. Snow crab could fare better as the Marine Stewardship Council (MSC) has certified Norway’s fishery; and in Canada, the supply outlook is reasonably good although quotas are down. Prices for king crab are set to increase, while snow crab prices may be more variable.

Supplies of king crab are envisaged to be tight in 2024, mainly because the fishery in the Bering Sea is closed. Landings in the Russian Federation are good but as Russian king crab is banned from the North American market, these supplies are going mainly to Asia. Snow crab supplies are slightly better and demand is good.
GLOBEFISH | Quarterly crab analysis - June 2024
03/06/2024
Supplies of king crab are low, and western markets (especially the United States of America) are struggling from not being able to import product from the Russian Federation due to the ongoing ban. Snow crab supplies from Canada are expected to be lower in 2024 than in 2023, which could push prices up.
