FAO GLOBEFISH

FAO GLOBEFISH

FAO GLOBEFISH is a multi-donor funded project established in 1984 with the aim to improve fisheries and aquaculture practices by collecting, generating and sharing information and analysis on markets and trade of fisheries and aquaculture products.

Access to reliable and up-to-date information in the fisheries and aquaculture sector is key to reduce market inefficiencies.

FAO GLOBEFISH promotes information exchange in an effort to increase transparency of trade-related information, strengthen communication within the global seafood market and enhance fisheries and aquaculture practices, with a focus on ensuring that developing countries and economies in transition have the tools, knowledge, and information to compete globally in seafood markets.

FAO GLOBEFISH connects Governments, seafood industry, academia and stakeholders, facilitating information exchange, dialogue and coordination worldwide.

The FAO GLOBEFISH produces information and publications regularly, thanks to the extensive network of correspondents from the industry and direct access to most updated statistical data source. FAO GLOBEFISH is also an integral part of the FISHINFONetwork (FIN), a network of market and trade promotion information and technical advisory services aimed at the improvement of trade in fisheries and aquaculture products both from and among developing countries.

The project strategy includes three areas of work:
