NbS are a reality and they can be found worldwide

NbS, as actions supported by nature designed and ecosystem functioning to face societal challenges and ensure human well-being, are being mainstreamed as an opportunity to guide the current development into a more sustainable path, with eco-friendly technology in line with nature.

In agriculture, NbS can be the means towards the nature-positive production boosting envisaged by the UN Food System Summit 2021 action track 3. For doing so, we must recognize the elemental nature of agricultural systems as vital ecosystems that rely on natural resources, biodiversity and ecosystem services to produce food and other agricultural products and services. This also implies the recognition of agroecosystems' complexity and specificy as they are subjected to the worlwide bioclimatic and biocultural diversity. The application of homogeneous formulas for the management of inherently different agri-food systems is leading to the environmental and social collapse of agri-food systems. NbS are designed following the very foundation of ecosystems uniqueness, so they are applied in a cost-effective way since they take advantage of what nature already provides to face a current challenge.
