14th international LANDNET workshop

Since 2002, FAO REU has organized 21 annual regional workshops on land tenure topics such as land consolidation, land banking, state land management, land abandonment and land market development.

Since 2010, the technical network is known as LANDNET.

The 2020 and 2021 workshops were unfortunately cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic but the 13th International LANDNET workshop was organized as a hybrid event in Skopje, North Macedonia, during 25-27 May 2022 with 100 participants physically present and additional 100 registered online participants.

The workshop in Skopje successfully re-vitalized LANDNET after the pandemic.

The 14th LANDNET workshop will take place in a physical format from 5 to 7 September in Istanbul, Türkiye.

The workshop is co-organized in partnership with the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry of Türkiye.

The objectives of this year’s LANDNET workshop are to: 

  • Present and discuss lessons learned from the implementation of land consolidation in Türkiye and the need for land banking
  • Present and discuss new developments on land consolidation, including related to multi-purpose land consolidation in Eastern Europe
  • Discuss policy options to address land abandonment and develop agricultural land markets The workshop will take place over three days. On the first day, the main focus will be on land consolidation and challenges in land use.

On the second day, focus will be on land consolidation in Türkiye with a field trip to land consolidation project areas in Bursa. The final day will focus on land abandonment, land market development and multi-purpose land consolidation. The workshop language is English with translation to Turkish and Russian.
