PREPARATION OF THIS REPORT

This is the report of the Ad hoc Consultation on Aquaculture Research, held in Rome, Italy, 5 to 9 May 1980, at the invitation of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the U.N. The report was approved in substance by the participants in the Consultation; however, no endorsement by FAO or any of the participating agencies has been sought or given. Special attention was given by the Consultation to the need for additional international support to research in aquaculture to provide longer term support to existing national and regional programmes. Having been called at the suggestion of the Technical Advisory Committee (TAC) of the Consultative Group on International Agriculture Research (CGIAR) its recommendations, in part, are directed toward the Committee. The report is intended, however, for consideration by all agencies and institutions having interest in supporting research and development activities in aquaculture, especially in the developing countries.
