FAO Director-General QU Dongyu attended the Agricultural Market Show 2024 in Maseru, Kingdom of Lesotho. A special FAO stand at the market showcased several initiatives active in Lesotho including the OCOP initiative which is helping the country to boost the production and marketability of potato.

The First FAO Technical Workshop on the Implementation of the One Country One Priority Product (OCOP) Initiative for Demonstration Countries was held in Sanya, China from 15 to 18 July 2024. The focal points from 16 OCOP demonstration countries across the five FAO regions and diverse geographic zones, including tropics, drylands, and mountainous regions attended the event. The participants convened to explore and exchange strategies on leveraging technologies to foster the sustainable development of the Special Agricultural Products (SAPs) officially selected by the countries. This workshop was jointly organized by the OCOP Secretariat of FAO and the Chinese Academy of Tropical Agricultural Sciences (CATAS).

With FAO’s expanding project portfolio, there is an increasing need to strengthen the programmatic and operational efficiency and quality of SSTC project management, Anping Ye, Director of the SSTC Division of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), said this week, at the Knowledge Sharing Workshop on SSTC: Improving the management of SSTC programmes and projects, hosted by FAO in Rome.

Bhutan has organized a two-day Training of the Trainers to build the capacities of the extension staff in quinoa production. The training focused on advanced production technologies, marketing strategies, and addressing challenges related to quinoa cultivation, with the goal of promoting it as a key crop for food security and economic growth in Bhutan.
