The United Nations General Assembly proclaimed 21 March the International Day of Forests in 2012 to celebrate and raise awareness of the importance of all types of forests. The theme for each International Day of Forests is chosen by the Collaborative Partnership on Forests. The theme for 2023 is “Forests and health,” with the slogan “Healthy forests for healthy people.”

A new, long-awaited plan of action through 2030 has been approved by the Fifteenth Conference of the Parties (COP15) to the United Nations Convention on Biological Diversity, which took place in December 2022 in Montreal, Canada. Around 16 000 participants attended the conference, representing nearly 200 governments, United Nations and international organizations, Indigenous Peoples and local communities, non-governmental organizations, academia, and the private sector.

COP27 provides a pivotal moment for the food and agriculture agenda that would encourage future actions for climate resilient and sustainable practices.
For the first time ever, the COP27 in Egypt next month will have four pavilions dedicated to food systems solutions, including the Food4Climate Pavilion, a partnership of several NGOs including those local to Egypt, is working to create a unified voice and clear call to action for decision-makers.
