SUMMARY

The detailed drawings and specifications for the construction of the Beymelek Lagoon Aquaculture Centre were reviewed during the mission. The main changes made concerned the project levels as a result of the new topographical plan which differed considerably from the provisional one. A set of 89 drawings has been prepared by the Turkish engineers in accordance with the specifications provided by the Consultants during the last mission, together with calculations, bills of quantities and costings for the construction work and main equipment.

A work plan has been prepared which aims at having the hatchery constructed and operational before December 1989, the time when natural reproduction starts. This plan calls for the construction work to begin within May 1989.

On the basis of the budget made available by the Ministry of Agriculture: 575 million T.L. for construction work and 372 million T.L. for equipment; lists for both have been prepared. The Ministry of Transport will allocate a further sum for the construction of the sea-dykes (estimated cost: 415 million T.L.).

Part of the equipment will be imported directly by the Ministry of Agriculture and part will be purchased by FAO as part of the UNDP contribution. Equipment and specification lists have been forwarded to both parties.

The Government of Turkey should furnish all personnel, equipment and facilities needed on the project site from the beginning of the construction work. U.N.D.P. will supply a Senior Advisor from September 1989, with one or two preliminary missions by the same (May - July) and two specialists for the hatchery operation, in accordance with the programme and assignment chart with reference to consultancies as previously prepared.
