This report summarizes the discussion, conclusions and recommendations of the Eighth Session of the Working Party on Eel, held in Olsztyn, Poland, 24 to 29 May 1993.

ABSTRACT
The Eighth Session of the EIFAC Working Party on Eel took place from 24 to 29 May 1993, Olsztyn, Poland. The Session was attended by 42 participants, of which 37 from EIFAC member countries, and one participant each from Australia, Belarus, Canada, China and Morocco. Altogether, 34 papers were presented, and three posters exhibited. The papers were grouped under the following topic sessions: Larval and elver studies; Continental stages: growth; Continental stages: populations and fisheries; Continental stages: migration; Parasites and contamination; Eel culture; Co-operative studies; Eel recruitment and stocks. The Working Party expressed continued concern about the recruitment at the glass eel stage and the maintenance of stocks and fisheries and it put forward recommendations on how to arrest further deterioration of eel stocks.
