| ![Spacer](./GIFS/1.GIF) | Lake Tanganyika Research (LTR) is a regional project which became fully operational in January 1992. The participating countries are : Burundi, the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), Tanzania, and Zambia. All project activities are carried out in collaboration with the respective national fisheries authorities and fisheries research establishments. Funding is provided mainly though the Department for International Development Cooperation, Ministry for Foreign Affairs of Finland. The Finnish Department for International Development Cooperation is the successor agency to FINNIDA (Finnish International Development Agency), which was the original principal funding agency for the LTR project. Subsidiary funding has also come from the Arab Gulf Programme for the United Nations Development Organizations (AGFUND), and projects UNTS/RAF/007/GEF (Lake Tanganyika Biodiversity Project) and GCP/INT/648/NOR (FISHCODE). LTR is executed by the Food and Agriculture Organisation of the United Nations (FAO) and scientific coordination is provided by the University of Kuopio, Finland.
