The first Bioenergy Week, held in Brasilia, was the first of a series of study tours designed to create a forum for scientist, policimakers and private representatives from around the world to strenghten their knowledge and collaboration on bioenergy development.

The event, hosted by the government of Brazil in partnership with GBEP, aimed to foster sustainable bioenergy deployment, particularly in developing countries where biomass use is prevalent. The week consisted of sessions with specific themes related to the sustainable production and use of bioenergy, and effective policy frameworks will be discussed, which take into account the GBEP work on sustainability indicators. Practical information on bioenergy technology and know-how were shared through a field trip to a biodiesel plant.
