The event aimed to discuss the relevance and opportunity of sustainable wood energy production and use as a contribution to forest landscape restoration (FLR) with stakeholders across sectors and especially between FLR and bioenergy stakeholders. The focus of the event was on Sub-Saharan Africa (SSA), as both challenges and opportunities for sustainable woody bioenergy to contribute to FLR – and vice versa – are concentrated in countries in this region.
The event intended to kick-off a dialogue process that continued further in a series of events to follow, taking into account activities, interest and willingness of participating stakeholders. The aim of the intended dialogue was to improve on knowledge and capacities related to sustainable local production and use of wood energy as well as on
sound planning for sustainable landscapes and rural development.
This event was kindly hosted by the Global Bioenergy Partnership (GBEP), in collaboration with the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH on behalf of the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation
and Development (BMZ), and the International Energy Agency Bioenergy Technology Collaboration Program (IEA Bioenergy).
