In a significant announcement at COP28, Mr. Gilberto Pichetto, the Italian Minister of Environment and Energy Security (MASE), unveiled plans for the 11th Bioenergy Week to be hosted at FAO Headquarters in Rome in the first half of 2024.

The Bioenergy Weeks, held each year in a different region of the world, is a unique opportunity for bioenergy experts, stakeholders and policymakers to gather and discuss challenges, trends and best practices related to several bioenergy aspects.

The announcement coincided with the signing of a Letter of Intent between Minister Pichetto and FAO Director-General Qu Dongyu, reinforcing Italy's commitment to climate-smart agriculture and bioenergy and its support to GBEP.

"We are proud to support the Global Bioenergy Partnership, an initiative born in 2005 on an Italian proposal, and which we are currently co-chairing,” said the minister. ‘’Through this partnership, we have contributed to the development of sustainability indicators for the production and use of bioenergy, with the aim of supporting policies that increase the sustainability of these resources. In this regard, we are pleased that FAO will host the next Bioenergy Week in Rome in the first half of 2024."
