Digestate: a nature-based solution to optimize the water-energy-food nexus in the agrifood system

Biogas and biomethane produced through the anaerobic digestion of agricultural and agro-industrial waste are a win-win solution to mitigate climate change: they can replace fossil fuels and avoid greenhouse gas emissions caused by the natural decay of organic waste.

The by-product of this anaerobic digestion, digestate, can replace chemical fertilizers.
