Access to lake:No direct access. Office compound is situated 0.5 km inland. Access to the lake is via Cercle Nautique (Yacht Club) or Bujumbura Harbour.
Facilities: A single administrative HQ was constructed in early 1992; it includes the reception, laboratory, library/meeting room and four offices, a total of 360 m2, and a 10 car parking lot. In addition, 56 m2 storage/deport facilities were renovated.
Equipment:HF and VHF communication equipment, computers and other office equipment and furniture, scientific/laboratory equipment and material required to carry out investigation/analyses in hydrodynamic, limnology and primary production, water chemistry, zooplankton biology, fish biology and hydroacoustics. Fully automatic meteorological station and water level device.
Vehicles/boats: Toyota Hilux 4WD, Suzuki 4WD JIMMY, R/V Tanganyika Explorer**,R/V Sangala with 200 HP engine and 40 HP support engine, fitted with radar, GPS, echosounder, VHF radio, and winch.
 
NOTES:

* this facility now houses the Burundi' research station which is part of the Lake Tanganyika Fisheries Monitoring Programme (LTFMP);
** three year long charter of this vessel was successfully completed on 28.4.1998.
