LTR Mpulungu Station

MPULUNGU, ZAMBIA*

Access to lake:Direct access as the office compound is situated on the lakeshore; pier and jetty facilities.
Facilities:An extensive renovation of the Department of Fisheries facilities was carried out in late 1992. The LTR renovated offices, laboratories and guest-house and constructed one house for project staff.
Equipment:HF and VHF communication equipment, computers & other office equipment and furniture, scientific/laboratory equipment and material required to carry out investigation/analyses in hydrodynamics, limnology and primary production, water chemistry, zooplankton and fish biology. Fully automatic meteorological station and water level device.
Vehicles/boats:Toyota Hilux 4WD, Suzuki 4WD JIMMY, R/V Silver Shoal, a 12m steel hull vessel, fitted with radar, GPS, echosounder, VHF & HF radios, and winch.
 
NOTES:

* this facility now houses the Zambia's research station which is part of the Lake Tanganyika Fisheries Monitoring Programme (LTFMP) and is also shared with the Lake Tanganyika Biodiversity project (LTBP).
