The Regional Organizing Group (ROG) will oversee and coordinate OCOP projects in the FAO Africa region.

The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) and the Government of Malawi through the Ministry of Agriculture kicked off the implementation of a new project to promote the sustainable development of banana as a Special Agricultural Product (SAP) in Malawi.

A new project will support small-scale farmers and entrepreneurs to benefit from the country’s national fruit.

On 28-30 November 2022, the FAO Plant Production and Protection Division (NSP) and the Chinese Academy of Tropical Agricultural Sciences (CATAS) jointly organized three online training sessions on the Sustainable Development of Special Agricultural Products (SAPs) for the Implementation of the FAO Global Action on OCOP in the Tropics. 

The OCOP Secretariat held the Fifth Regional Coordination Meeting for the implementation of the FAO One Country One Priority (OCOP) Initiative across the five FAO regions.

Over 70 nations from five FAO regions designated as potential project countries with the first five demonstration countries named – Bangladesh, Egypt, Malawi, Trinidad and Tobago and Uzbekistan.

L'Organisation des Nations Unies pour l'alimentation et l'agriculture (FAO) a lancé aujourd'hui son Action mondiale pour le développement vert des produits agricoles spéciaux : un pays, un produit prioritaire (OCOP). Cette action vise à développer des chaînes de valeur vertes et durables pour des produits agricoles spéciaux, à aider les petits agriculteurs et les agriculteurs familiaux à tirer pleinement parti d'un marché mondial et, à terme, à contribuer à la transformation des systèmes agroalimentaires actuels et à la réalisation des objectifs de développement durable (ODD) .

L'Afrique est la première région à lancer une nouvelle initiative en faveur de la production verte. 

L'Organisation des Nations Unies pour l'alimentation et l'agriculture (FAO) a commencé à mettre en œuvre une nouvelle initiative visant à aider les pays à promouvoir leurs produits agricoles les plus distinctifs, dans le cadre d'une étape importante vers la transformation des systèmes agroalimentaires. "Nous devons avancer de manière efficiente et efficace avec des actions concrètes", a déclaré le Directeur général QU Dongyu dans son discours d'ouverture de la première réunion d'un Comité directeur pour l'Action mondiale pour le développement vert des produits agricoles spéciaux : "Un pays, un produit prioritaire" (OCOP).

Des pays d'Asie et du Pacifique se joignent à une initiative visant à promouvoir et à présenter le "meilleur des meilleurs" de leurs produits agricoles spéciaux - une initiative conçue pour assurer un niveau élevé de participation des petits exploitants aux producteurs en passant par les exportateurs et autres tout au long de la chaîne de valeur.
